What is the Veridem Authorship Registry?
The Veridem Authorship Registry is a free, public, permanent record of authorship credentials issued by Veridem's certification tools. It exists because the U.S. Copyright Office found in January 2025 that prompting an AI system alone doesn't establish legal authorship. Veridem's registry documents the human creative decisions that do count.
How do I get a Veridem certificate?
You don't request a certificate directly from the Registry — the Registry only records and verifies credentials that have already been earned. Certificates come from completing certification through one of Veridem's tools: MHAIX for music authorship certification, Re:Writ for lyric authorship, or Compose:EP for release and visual authorship documentation. Once a certification is complete, it's automatically entered into the Registry and becomes publicly verifiable.
Is this the same as an AI music detector?
No. AI detectors analyze unknown audio and guess whether it was AI-generated — a forensic, probabilistic approach. The Veridem Registry does something different: it looks up an already-existing, human-documented certificate and confirms it's genuine.
How does verification actually work?
Verification works in two tiers. Anyone can enter a certificate ID and confirm it's genuine, active, and when it was issued — free, with no login and no fee. The full record, including creator name, work title, and authorship breakdown, only unlocks through the certificate's own private token or QR code, which only the certificate holder has.
Who checks a Veridem certificate, and why?
Veridem certificates are checked by labels and publishers doing due diligence before a release or deal, by collaborators confirming credit, and by a Copyright Office examiner cross-referencing a filing.
Does this replace copyright registration with the U.S. Copyright Office?
No. The Veridem Authorship Registry is a complementary evidence layer, not a substitute for official copyright registration with the U.S. Copyright Office.
How much does the Registry cost?
The Registry is free, always, to look anything up. There is no fee to verify a certificate. The Registry itself doesn't charge anything because it's funded by the certification products that issue the credentials in the first place: MHAIX, for music authorship certification, Re:Writ, for lyric authorship journaling, and Compose:EP, for release and visual authorship documentation. Those products are the actual source of registry entries.
